Naomi Jean (Poulson) Marmie
Naomi Jean Marmie, 93, of Woodsfield, Ohio, formerly of Ozark, Ohio died New Year’s Day, 2026. She was born on Christmas Day,1932 at home in Washington Township, Belmont County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Harry and Eva (Perkins) Poulson.
Naomi was known for her cooking, gardening, and her infectious smile. Family and friends adored her. She was a caring and loving mother to her children and three generations of grandchildren, never forgetting a birthday. Naomi dearly loved the Lord. She graduated from Beallsville High School in 1950 then married David Marmie in 1952. Naomi gave birth to their first daughter, Debra, while David was stationed in the Air Force in Denver, Colorado. After the service, David and Naomi moved back to Ohio where they eventually planted roots in Ozark Ohio raising five children. Naomi worked for Ohio Bell from 1950-1953. After raising their children, Naomi went to work at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehab Center for 21 years. For years, Naomi was the organist at the Jerusalem United Methodist Church and she instilled the gift of music into her children. They often gathered around the upright piano and sang hymns as a family . . . she truly was the leader of the band. Naomi loved gardening and her hard work was evident in the worn-down garden hoe she used. Naomi smiled, laughed, loved, and gave of herself to help and care for others. “Ozark Granny” will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, David; her daughter, Debra Burke; her sister, Florence (Robert) Burgess of Trussville, Alabama; her brother, David (Florence) Poulson of Edgerton, Ohio; a great-great grandson, Preston Thompson, and most recently, her sister, Lois (Kenneth) Kemp of Bethesda, Ohio on January 3, 2026.
