Publication Promotes Barnesville as Retiree Location

Another outside publication has discovered Barnesville. Last year the community was selected as one of Ohio’s Best Hometowns.

Late in the year, the publication, Family Destination Guides , profiled Barnesville as “The Peaceful Town in Ohio Where You Can Comfortably Live on Just Social Security.”

Penned by Jasper Miller, the article first posted online on November 24.

The publication touts itself as one of  “local writers help thrifty 45+ locals find affordable places to live, eat, and explore close to home”.

The article begins with a suggestion, “imagine finding a place where your Social Security check isn’t just enough to survive”.

“Downtown Barnesville’s historic brick facades aren’t just pretty faces—they’re time machines disguised as storefronts, each one with stories older than your favorite recliner.

“Barnesville, Ohio, is that rare gem in today’s economy—a charming small town where affordability meets quality of life without sacrificing either.

“Nestled in the rolling hills of Belmont County in eastern Ohio, this picturesque community offers something increasingly precious in America: financial breathing room for retirees and fixed-income residents.

“But Barnesville isn’t just affordable—it’s delightful in ways that big-budget retirement destinations often aren’t.

“The downtown greets you with a row of beautifully preserved 19th-century brick buildings, their sturdy facades a testament to the town’s enduring values of practicality and permanence”, the publication states.

The article covers some of the community’s assets including Memorial Park, Barnesville Pumpkin Festival and the Belmont County Mansion Museum.

It also explores the cost of housing, including taxes and utilities.
