Mary Louise Taylor

Mary Louise Taylor, 87, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Monday, January 19, 2026, at Trinity Medical Center West.

She was born on November 27, 1938, in Taplin, Ohio, daughter of the late Dewey Careway and Sophia M. Tackett Careway.

Mary was former secretary of Belmont County Sheriff’s Office, co-owner of the Odds and Ends Shop, and a sales associate for Sears, all of which were in St. Clairsville, OH. She also volunteered at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry. Mary’s faith was very important to her, and was faithful member of the Church of Christ, most recently the Belmont Church of Christ. Mary further served her community by teaching during Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also involved in the Flushing Senior Center over the years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband John Edward Taylor; a son John E. Taylor Jr; a grandson Taylor McGaffick; brothers James Careway, Harold Careway, Charles Careway, Donald Careway, and Melvin Careway; and sisters Jacqueline Stotts and Betty Nichol.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Cindi Henry and Jeryl (Fred) McGaffick; grandchildren Cara (Jesse) Halldin, Janie (Derek) Richardson, John (Amber) Taylor III, Zachary (Emilee) McGaffick, and Kelby McGaffick; great grandchildren Camden Halldin, Callan Halldin, and Gemma Richardson; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 6—8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where services will be held on Friday following visitation from 1—2 p.m., with Micah Fuchs officiating. A private burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
