Belmont County Inmate Facing Charges After Assaulting Officers
The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old male, Myreik Trevette Fryson, of Columbus after assaulting two correctional officers at 11 p.m. Monday at the Belmont County Jail.
Belmont County Sheriff James Zusack said the incident occurred during routine lockdown procedures, when inmates are required to return from the day room to their individual cells.

According to Zusack, correctional officers instructed Fryson to return to his cell, but he refused to comply. After officers attempted to escort him, Fryson turned and punched both officers, one male and one female.
“My message is, we’re not going to tolerate this,” Zusack said.
Fryson has been charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, both fifth-degree felonies. He remains in lockdown, separated from the jail’s general population.
The two officers sustained minor facial injuries and have since continued to work.
“We did talk to the inmate. He did admit he was wrong,” Zusack said. “But I just can’t have my COs or any of my staff being assaulted like that.”
