Roger Lee Schmitt

Roger Lee Schmitt, 78, of Belmont, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Forest Hill Nursing Home in St. Clairsville. He was born May 17, 1947, in Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of the late Francis and Margaret DeLeau Schmitt.

Roger was a retired mechanic for Ohio Valley Paving in Belmont and Rod’s Welding in Barnesville.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his significant other, Linda Darlene Berry in 2010; four brothers, Francis Schmitt Jr., Gary “Gar” Schmitt, Randy L. Schmitt and James R. Schmitt; two sisters, Marcella Demkowitcz and Patty Palmer.

He is survived by his son, Eric (Lindsay) Berry; one grandchild, Easton Berry; four brothers, Robert “Herm” Schmitt, Rick Schmitt, Donny Schmitt and Danny Schmitt; one sister, Sandy McConnaughy; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville. Roger’s request was that everyone is to dress casual or in their favorite sports team gear.

Private burial at Belmont Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
