Swimmers Excel at Sectionals

Barnesville Shamrock Swimmers did well at Steubenville Saturday in East District Division II Ohio High School Athletic Association competition.

A total of 18 men’s teams and 19 women’s teams participated in the 22 contests at Steubenville High School.

Barnesville’s boys team came in second with 189 points behind winner Dresden Tri-Valley that racked up 403 points.

The girls team came in seventh with 177.5 points. Lisbon Beaver Local claimed first place with 253 points.

Sunday, it was announced all swimmers would move on to District competition.

“Congratulations to ALL of our swimmers. ALL are advancing to the District Meet at Ohio University in Athens on Friday,” a Barnesville High School Swim social media post announced.

District Qualifiers:

200 Medley Relay – Leia Grear, Liv McCrate, Bonita Passmore, Adalyn Spangenburg

200 Medley Relay – Jack Carpenter, Antoni Schuerle, Maddox Whaley, Mason Starr

200 Free – Leia Grear

200 IM – Liv McCrate, Antoni Schuerle

100 Fly – Bonita Passmore

100 Free – Maddox Whaley

500 Free – Kierra Phillips (Alternate)

200 Free Relay – Mason Starr, Jack Carpenter, Antoni Schuerle, Maddox Whaley

100 Back – Bonita Passmore, Jack Carpenter

100 Breast – Liv McCrate, Leia Grear, Antoni Schuerle, Maddox Whaley

400 Free Relay – Kierra Phillips, Leia Grear, Bonita Passmore, Liv McCrate

400 Free Relay – Brock Trigg, Aiden Starr, Mason Starr, Jack Carpenter

Two ‘Rocks competitors broke personal records in the 100-yard Breaststroke – Liv McCrate and Antoni Scheurle.

Liv McCrate dropped .41 seconds for a new personal record in 100-yard breaststroke competition Saturday. She came in first out of 31 swimmers in the contest. [Barnesville High School Swim photo]

Antoni Scheurle shaved .43 seconds off of his personal record for the 100-yard breaststroke at Steubenville Saturday. He took first place out of 21 swimmers in the contest. His new record is 1:04.12. [Barnesville High School Swim photo]
