Tickets Now on Sale for BHS Spring Musical
The magical land of Oz is making its way to the Barnesville High School Auditorium. Shamrock Theater, the drama department of Barnesville High, is busy preparing for the upcoming production of the classic, The Wizard of Oz, one of the biggest shows that the theater group has performed yet. The community will have six opportunities to attend the show: March 20 at 7:00 pm, March 21 at 1:30 pm & 7:00 pm, March 27 at 7:00 pm, and March 28 at 1:30 pm & 7:00 pm.
Tickets are now on sale, and there are several ways to purchase them. A new feature this year is the addition of online ticketing through Hometown. Click here for online tickets, which are $10 each. Presale tickets will also be available for purchase in the BHS lobby from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm on school days and from 5:00 to 6:30 pm on Wednesdays. Presale tickets are $10 for general admission and $6 for students, senior citizens, and military/first responders. All tickets at the door are $10. For those wanting to see the show multiple times, a season pass is available for $45. In the past, shows have sold out, so purchasing tickets early is encouraged.
There are over 90 students spanning grades 5-12 involved in this year’s show. When the audience sits down in an auditorium for a musical, they expect to see some singing and some dancing. For this year’s show, that is only the tip of the iceberg. Not only are there different vocal ensembles and various styles of dance ensembles, there is also student artwork making up all of the backdrops, and students controlling every light cue, curtain pull, sound cue, and technical element. “This is the most involved the students have been in the set work,” shared senior Peyton Steed, who is playing the Scarecrow. There are many moving set pieces, timed and coordinated elements, and performances that will leave the audience in awe, laughing, and maybe even shedding a tear or two.
Since the reveal and auditions in October, the theater students have been working very hard. In addition to daily rehearsals, these students have been working during study halls, lunches, after rehearsals, and even on the occasional weekend. “My favorite thing is watching it all come together. To see all the hard work make something special,” stated junior Brooklyn Miller, who is cast as Dorothy.
BHS Music Instructor Devin Blair expressed, “I’d like to thank all of the families of these students for all of their support to them and this program, as well as our staff, volunteers, and all local businesses and organizations that have supported them by either taking out an ad in the program, making a donation, or hanging a flyer. We are blessed to have a community like Barnesville that makes us realize that there really is no place like home.”
