Fire Chars Acreage near Temperanceville
A fire ignited by a tree blown down onto a power line Sunday afternoon claimed 8.8 wooded acres along State Route 379 near Temperanceville according to a spokesperson for the Somerton Volunteer Fire Department.
Assisting the Somerton volunteers battle the wind-driven blaze were personnel from the Barnesville, Fairview, Bethesda, Quaker City and Woodsfield VFDs. Barnesville responded with the department’s specialized brush fire fighting equipment.
No injuries were reported.
Downed trees and power outages lingered into Monday morning. Some communities, including Belmont, were without power for up to 20 hours.
At 11 a.m. Monday, American Electric Power (AEP) was still reporting power out to over 1,500 Belmont County customers.
A severe weather front moving through the area Monday dropped temperatures over 30 degrees. Monday night’s low is predicted to be 19 degrees while Tuesday’s predicted high of 27 will be bookended by 16 degrees tomorrow night.
