Community Improvement Corporation of Belmont County Presents Workshops
The Community Improvement Corporation of Belmont County is organizing a series of workshops aimed at supporting local businesses.
This program features a two-part “Profit Mastery Class.”
The workshops will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 15 and April 29, at the Community Improvement Corporation office, 133 Woodrow Ave., St. Clairsville.
Registration is required and can be completed online at https://sbdc.ohio.edu/events/.
According to event materials, this program provides business owners and managers with the tools that can move them from Profit Mystery to Profit Mastery. The course uses case studies and a practical, down-to-earth teaching style developed by Business Resource Systems.
Topics covered in the workshop include:
- Overcoming common business problems
- Understanding your financial position
- Avoiding cash crunches
- Planning for transition
- Using tools to take active control
- Making effective pricing decisions
- An approach to analysis
The workshop is open only to for-profit businesses that have been operating for at least one year. Registration includes a workbook of more than 200 pages for each participating business.
While the course typically costs nearly $500, it is being offered at no cost through funding provided by the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Ohio University.
Participants may also earn up to 16 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) credit.
Space is limited to 10 businesses, and participation is restricted to those within the SBDC’s 13-county service region. Lunch will be provided by Tim James of First Microloan Lending.

Cindy Voorhies, a certified business advisor with the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service, will lead the workshop. She serves businesses in multiple counties within the region and provides advising in areas such as business planning, access to capital, market planning and financial analysis.
“We continue to partner with organizations around the state to bring assistance to our small businesses, the backbone to the economy,” said Crystal Lorimor, executive director of the Community Improvement Corporation of Belmont County.
