The Hits Came But Runs Did Not
Monroe Central – 15, Barnesville – 4
The Shamrocks outhit the Monroe Central Seminoles 11 to 10 but came up short at the plate, losing 15 to 4 at Woodsfield Tuesday evening.
Barnesville opened the scoring in the first when Mariah Schaffer doubled, scoring two runs.
Monroe Central tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to an error, a steal of home by Kamryn Winland, and a fly out by Allie McFredrick.
The Shamrocks regained the lead in the top of the second. Betts singled, scoring one run, to give Barnesville the leg up, 4-3.
Monroe Central flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 9-4.
In the third, the Seminoles scored five runs on one hit. Nevaeh Burdette scored after tagging up, an error scored one run, and McFredrick homered to left field, scoring three runs.
McFredrick earned the win for Monroe Central. The pitcher allowed seven hits and four runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one.
Betts pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Barnesville, allowing four hits and six runs while striking out four and walking four. Peyton Loudin led things off on the mound for the Shamrocks.
Barnesville collected 11 hits in the game. Ella Betts led the Shamrocks with 3 hits in four at bats, hitting singles in the first, second, and fourth innings. In the middle of the lineup, Schaffer drove in two runs. Roselyne Anderson and Loudin each collected multiple hits while Becklee Oliver stole two bases.
Monroe Central had 10 hits, five walks, six stolen bases and no errors.
The Lady Shamrocks next play Friday at Buckeye Local against the Panthers.
