Barnesville Police Offer Community Safety Training

The Barnesville Police Department is offering community safety training focused on preparing residents for emergency situations.

The training includes civilian response to active shooter events and “Stop the Bleed” instruction.

“Be prepared,” the department said. “Gain the knowledge and skills that can help save lives.”

Attendees will learn how to respond effectively during an active shooter event, improve situational awareness and decision-making under stress, perform hands-on bleeding control techniques and use tourniquets and other lifesaving equipment.

The courses are designed for people of the community, businesses and organizations, schools and churches and anyone who wants to be prepared.

The free training is open to Barnesville and surrounding areas. Classes are available upon request and group trainings are welcome.

To schedule a class or get more information, contact Lt. Matthew Tippie at 740-425-1976 or m.tippie@barnesvilleohio.com.

Lt. Tippie has completed multiple trainings qualifying him for instruction in courses related to the handling of active threats, including ALERRT and Stop the Bleed.

Police Chief Rocky Sirianni said Lt. Tippie thought it would be good to share this knowledge with the community to promote preparedness, and he fully supported that idea.

“I pray that we never have an incident that warrants this training to be used, but I wouldn’t want our department or the community to wish they had better training or preparedness at the worst possible time,” Sirianni said. “The more tools you have available, the more capable you will be at handling a problem.”
