Prosecutor Wins Race for Judge

Belmont County Prosecutor Kevin Flanagan will move to the other side of the bench in January when he replaces current Court of Common Pleas Judge John J. Vavra who is age limited in the position.

Flanagan won the Republican nomination for the judgeship Tuesday over Bethesda resident John McCormick.  Since no Democrats filed for the position, the current prosecutor will run unopposed on the November ballot.

Flanagan collected 5,761 votes, about 73.5% of the vote, to McCormick’s 1,997 votes, or about 26.5 %.

Results are unofficial until the Belmont County Board of Elections meets on May 14 for the Official Canvass to certify the results of the May 5, 2026, Primary Election. The meeting will open at 8:30 a.m. and the board will reconvene at 4 p.m., said Eberle Ferrell, director.
