Baseball: Shamrocks fall 8-5 to Tigers at Memorial Park
BARNESVILLE — The visiting Shadyside Tigers (10-9 overall) piled up five runs in the sixth inning to mount a come-from-behind victory over the Barnesville Shamrocks (16-5 overall) Friday at Barnesville Memorial Park.
Shadyside’s Jacob Allen finished with three singles and two RBI’s. Joining Allen was his teammate Dom Forgacs, who also recorded two RBI’s.
Trey Wright was the winning pitcher, tossing the final two frames for the Tigers and striking out a pair as he held Shadyside’s newfound lead.
For Barnesville, junior outfielder Brayden Watters and sophomore shortstop Gunner Dudzik each tallied a double and a single. Junior catcher Aidan Caldwell also had a multi-hit day with two singles.
Starting on the mound for the Shamrocks was sophomore right-hander Bobby Thompson, and he recorded five strikeouts before retiring in the fifth inning. Freshman right-hand pitcher Bentley Stephen was the reliever, but he struggled to put away Shadyside’s lineup.
Some miscommunication, errors and pitching from Barnesville ultimately is what caused the loss at home. The Tigers took advantage and their defense was able to hold the Shamrocks from tying or taking the lead in the bottom of the seventh.
Barnesville Head Coach D.J. Butler and his ballclub will return home to Memorial Park Monday, May 11, with a single game against the visiting Shenandoah Zeps with the first pitch thrown at 5:30 p.m.
As for the Shadyside Tigers, their next game is a road contest against the Buckeye Local Panthers next Tuesday starting at 5 p.m.
