SR 148 Closed Near Armstrong Mills
Press Release
NEW PHILADELPHIA – Effective Friday, May 29, SR 148 was closed to traffic 1.5 miles west of Armstrong Mills at the bridge over the Captina Creek. The duration of the closure is unknown.
On Thursday, a routine inspection discovered a dip on the left side of the bridge, initially leading to a one-lane closure. Following further investigation, the decision was made to close the road in both directions out of an abundance of caution.
A plan has since been developed for action to remediate the bridge. ODOT will utilize a consultant to perform an underwater inspection of both bridge piers. This further inspection will investigate any additional deficiencies and include survey work of the existing bridge.
Following this evaluation, ODOT will design a project to repair, remediate, and reopen the bridge to traffic.
An update will be provided as soon as a project timeline and additional information become available.
The detour is SR 800 north to SR 147 east, SR 147 east to SR 9 south, SR 9 south back to SR 148, and reverse.
