Program Delivers Summer Lunches to Barnesville and Union Local Students

The Barnesville Summer Lunch Program has started for the summer. Lunches are prepared and then delivered from the Main Street United Methodist Church every Monday-Friday.

The program prepares and delivers roughly 300 meals every weekday. Deliveries are made to students of Barnesville and Union Local schools in the homes and apartment complexes of Barnesville, Bethesda, Belmont, Morristown and Somerton areas.

Meal preparation begins at 9 a.m. and runs until about 11 a.m. in the church basement at 230 West Main Street.

Although the menu remains the same week-to-week, one day features a hot dog, another a sloppy joe or hot chicken, bologna, cheese or peanut butter sandwich.

The program is funded entirely by private donations. Please make checks payable to and send them to “Summer Lunch Program”, P.O. Box 11, Barnesville, OH, 43713.

The program is totally run by volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to send a private message to Kim Henderson on her Facebook page.

The group is thankful for all of the volunteers and generous donations that help to continue this much needed service.

The program is presently in need of delivery drivers. Most days organizers do not have enough drivers available forcing the volunteers who prepare the food to make deliveries.

Student volunteers are welcomed and encouraged to join in. If credit is needed for hours worked, it will be provided.
