George R. “Randy” Stephen

George R. “Randy” Stephen passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born in Barnesville, Ohio, George lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and dedication to others. He was an extremely proud father of his two sons and a United States Army Sergeant Major. “Randy,” as most people knew him, devoted much of his life to serving his country, earning the respect of those who served alongside him through his leadership and unwavering commitment to duty.

He retired in Copperas Cove, Texas, where he built a home and raised his family. His commitment to service did not end with retirement. He remained actively involved with veterans’ organizations, dedicating his time and energy to supporting fellow servicemembers and veterans. His passion for helping others and honoring those who served remained strong throughout his life and continued until his final days.

Family was equally important to George. He was a devoted son who cherished his mother, Anna Eschbaugh, and faithfully remained by her side in Barnesville, Ohio, helping care for her until her passing. His loyalty to family reflected the same values of duty and commitment that guided his military service.

George was preceded in death by his son, Randy Stephen, who passed away in September 2020. He is survived by his son, Ryan Stephen; his former wife, Shirley Stephen; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; extended family members; lifelong friends; and countless fellow veterans whose lives were touched by his friendship, guidance, and example.

Those who knew George (Randy) remember a man of honor, strength, and compassion. Whether caring for family, serving his nation, supporting veterans, or lending a helping hand to a friend, he lived according to principles that never wavered. Being a Soldier was not simply a career—it was a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and taking care of others.

A military burial service will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas, on June 18, 2026, where George R. Stephen will be laid to rest with military honors befitting his years of faithful service to the United States Army.

Though he has departed this life, his legacy endures in the family he loved, the soldiers he led, the veterans he supported, and the countless lives he influenced through his example. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Well done, Sergeant Major. You may now rest in peace.
