Storm Results in Flash Flooding
BARNESVILLE – Heavy rain on Monday afternoon resulted in flooding west and south of Barnesville. SR 147 west of Baileys Mills was covered with high water. SR 379 in Temperanceville, as well as sections of the road south to Calais in Monroe County, was also impacted.
The area west of Baileys Mills is often prone to flooding. In the years before SR 265 was relocated, there were signs along the roadway providing a measurement of the height of water.
Photos posted by social media subscribers detailed the flooding, while another post displayed a tree down on Mason Road in Somerset Township.
In other areas of the Ohio Valley, flooding once again affected areas of the Elm Grove section of Wheeling.
Earlier in the day, the Weather Service Bureau out of Pittsburgh warned of the potential for heavy rainfall, high winds and possible flooding in low lying areas.
