Ohio Hills Health Center Opens St. Clairsville Location

ST CLAIRSVILLE – The Ohio Hills Health Center (OHHC) opened a new location on June 16 at the ECO Center, located at 68332 Bannock Road in St. Clairsville.

The new location will be open to the public and will provide affordable medical and dental care to all who need it.

Immediately following the ribbon cutting, four speakers took the podium.

Jeff Britton, the CEO of OHHC, provided background information on efforts to open the new facility. He said the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center reached out about two years ago about setting up a new health center in St. Clairsville. He highlighted the mutual benefits of the proposal. “It really lined up perfectly to be in this area of Belmont County and to be providing medical healthcare to an underserved population. That could not happen without a lot of work from a lot of people.”

Mark Cook, representing the Educational Service Center (ESC), made brief remarks while also providing special recognition of ECS’s Matt King.

King shared the vision for the new facility. He explained that after the ESC purchased the ECO Center, there was interest in adding more services at the facility.

“I’m a resident of Belmont County, so this place is very near and dear to my heart. To see it underutilized was upsetting to me.” King said. “I made as many phone calls and talked to as many legislators and politicians as I could to see if there were any dollars out there. Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long before the Appalachian Children’s dollars came along.”

The needed funding came from a grant of Governor Mike DeWine’s investment in Appalachian children’s health industry. After funding was secured, the ESC partnered with Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus to create a clinic that would be open to all members of the public.

Matt Kosanovich, representing Nationwide Children’s Hospital, highlighted the importance of the governor’s children’s health industry investment. He thanked DeWine and the state agencies that cleared the way for the project to happen.

After the speakers, attendees were invited on a tour of the new facility including two special rooms – one handicap accessible and the other specialized for child care. The facility also houses a room equipped for dental care.
