Mary Alice Cottrill

Mary Alice Cottrill, 73, of Spencer, WV, passed away July 11, 2026, at Roane General Hospital.

She was born on January 6, 1953, in Spencer, WV, she was the daughter of Calvin and Alice Merrill Harris. 

Mary was married to the love of her life, Donald Cottrill, for 57 years. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for her family. 

Mary was the best cook and loved to feed her family. Everyone had a favorite dish and she lovingly made them all. 

Her smile and her laugh will forever remain etched in our hearts and minds. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter Janie Mae Cottrill, two sisters, Sherrill Smith and Debbie Jett, two brothers, Harry Harris and Phillip Harris. 

Those left cherish to her memory include her husband Donald Cottrill of Spencer, WV, three sons, Donald D. Cottrill Jr. (Tami) of Camden, SC, Jeffrey K. Cottrill (Jodi) of Spencer, WV, Jeremy K. Cottrill (Melissa) of Clarksburg, WV, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Two sisters Betty Tatterson of Reedy, WV, Edna Haught of Spencer, WV, one brother Darren Harris of Barnesville, OH.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with pubic visitation at 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Otto Cemetery with Pastor Danny Whited officiating.
