Rodney Lee Butler
Rodney Lee Butler, 75, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving children.
Rodney was born on July 9, 1950, at Barnesville Hospital, the son of the late Vernon L. Butler and Cinderella Stephen Butler.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Miltonsburg, Ohio, Rodney lived a life centered on faith and family.
Rodney enjoyed deer hunting and farming. He had an extraordinary talent for mechanical work and was the person everyone turned to when something needed repaired. Whether it was rebuilding an engine, replacing brakes, or just a simple oil change Rodney could do it all. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He also enjoyed buying lottery tickets, spending time on his front porch visiting with family and friends, and sharing a good cup of coffee with those he loved.
Rodney dedicated over 50 years of his life to working as a mechanic. He began his career with Irby’s Construction in Byesville and then Baker’s Equipment in Lewisville. He then spent 25 years at Knowlton Ford, two years with Stephen’s Tire & Lube, and concluded his career with 17 years at Doan Ford in Morristown, retiring in 2017. In addition to his career, Rodney proudly served as a Trustee for Seneca Township for several years.
In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary A. Butler, whom he married on August 8, 1970. Mary passed away on April 15, 2023.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters, Diana (Jerry) Clark of Woodsfield, Ohio, and Michelle (Chuck) Warner of Summerfield, Ohio; his son, David (Tiffany) Butler of Barnesville, Ohio; his sisters, Carol Gallagher of Quaker City, Ohio, Audrey Crum of Caldwell, Ohio, and Delores (Mark) Wells of Jerusalem, Ohio; and his brother, Marvin (Lisa) Butler of Barnesville, Ohio.
He was a proud grandfather to Victoria (Tate) Christman, Nathan (Bre) Clark, Chase (Kaci) Warner, Marissa (Ethan) McKee, Macy (Damien) Stack, Chandler (Madison) Warner, Tessa (PJ) McKnight, Zachary, and Sophia Butler. Rodney was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren, with two more expected to arrive in November. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, special friends, and neighbors.
Rodney will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, unmatched work ethic, and willingness to help anyone in need. His love for his family, his quiet strength, and the example he set through a lifetime of hard work and compassion will never be forgotten.
Rodney will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. We will forever cherish the love he had for us, the lessons he taught us and the values and strength he instilled in our hearts.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78, Woodsfield, Ohio from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2026 with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Miltonsburg, Ohio with Fr. Nick Ward and Fr. Chester Pabin as the Celebrants. Burial will follow in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Miltonsburg, Ohio
