Drum Signing Tradition Continues at Shamrock Band Camp

During the week of August 3, sixty-three band students attended band camp at Barnesville High School, preparing for the football season that begins tonight at New Concord. The marching band has 34 instrumental players, 16 majorettes and 13 color guard members.

Each day of band camp had a theme. The themes were as follows: Monday — Mismatch Day, Tuesday — Meme Day, Wednesday — On Wednesdays We Wear Pink, Thursday — Water Bottle Day, and Friday — Section Colors.

Former Band Instructor Sarah Cooper started the senior drum signing tradition with the Class of 2016. As band camp comes to a close on Friday, the marching band makes a tunnel and plays the Alma Mater. Each senior band member walks through the tunnel and shares why they have participated in marching band during high school.

“They not only make their mark on the drum, but the program as a whole,” Band Instructor Devin Blair said. Blair shared that he signed the drum as a student in 2018.

Band Sponsors Board members assisted with serving meals and making sure students had what they needed. Each day, lunch was provided by the following sponsors: Marcia and Murray Stafford with Victory Baptist Church, Women’s Club of Barnesville, Christy Bubner, Karen Blair and Mary Ellen Hannahs.
