Games

Barnesville – 34, John Glenn – 19

Senior Running Back Trey Toliver was the star of the game at New Concord Friday night as the Shamrocks notched their first win of the season against the John Glenn Little Muskies, 34-19.

The game was the first time in 12 years the two teams squared off. For decades the first game each season was against John Glenn.

Runs by Toliver were responsible for all three Shamrock TDs in the first half. Although Barnesville struggled with two failed point after kicks, Toliver’s second score was followed by a successful two-point conversion.

John Glenn got on the board in the second frame erasing the ‘Rocks 20-0 lead.

In the third, the Little Muskies struck first. Barnesville responded with a 30-yard run by Evan Wells’ score making it a 26-13 game.

John Glenn added another touchdown before the Toliver struck for a fourth time with a blazing 50-yard dash to the endzone in the fourth quarter.

The Zanesville daily newspaper published a photo gallery of the game online under the banner, “Barnesville upends John Glenn in season opener.”
