New Police Chief Sworn In
BARNESVILLE – Lt. Matthew Tippie, a 10-year veteran of the local police force, was sworn in as police chief at the August 24 Barnesville Village Council meeting.
The new chief brings 18 years of professional law service to his new role. He began his career working for the Village of Woodsfield, followed by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
In Barnesville, he served as an officer for two years, followed by two years as a sergeant of the department before moving up to the lieutenant’s position. During this time, he also served as a special deputy for the Belmont County Sheriff Department’s SWAT team.
Tippie follows Rocky Sirianni in the position who was appointed chief in February 2018. Sirianni recently stepped down to accept the open school resource officer position at Barnesville High School.
