Bronze Sculpture Added Feature at Morristown Museum Location
MORRISTOWN – The Belmont County Tourism Office has announced the placement of a bronze sculpture and a bench honoring Dr. John Mattox, installed outside the Black Horse Inn.
The sculpture is part of the overall transformation of the historic inn as a new home for the Underground Railroad Ohio Valley.
“Dr. Mattox was more than a historian. He was a storyteller, educator, community leader and advocate who dedicated his life to preserving the stories of freedom seekers who traveled through Belmont County and the courageous people who helped them along their journey to freedom,” Tourism Director Jackee Pugh said.
The museum’s original location in Flushing closed August 24 to prepare for the move to Morristown. With an anticipated opening this fall, an official ribbon cutting is set for Friday, November 13.
