Shamrocks Defeat Big Reds on Senior Night 33-0

The Barnesville Shamrocks defeated the Bellaire Big Reds 33-0 on Friday night to pick up their third win of the season and remain undefeated.

Barnesville got off to a quick start with a 65-yard drive that took just 1:30 off the clock. Trey Toliver finished the drive with a six-yard touchdown run. Linas Graef added the point after to put the Rocks up 7-0.

After forcing a three-and-out, the Shamrocks took possession and, behind solid blocking from the offensive line, added to their lead. Toliver ran seven times for a total of 46 yards and another touchdown. Graef again tacked on the extra point.

Bellaire looked like they were in business on their second drive, but an interception by Phoenix Graham deep in Barnesville territory had the Rocks with the ball again.

Neither team could make any headway on their next drives, with Christien Hannahs putting an end to the Bellaire drive with a 19-yard tackle for loss. Barnesville made use of the good field position; five plays later, with runs from Evan Wells and Toliver, the Rocks would be up 20-0.

The Big Reds would get the ball back with 6:03 left in the 2nd quarter and used nearly all of it on a 14-play, 64-yard drive, but the Barnesville defense would come up big again with a stop on 4th and goal from the one-yard line with just three seconds left in the half.

The Rocks opened up the second half with a successful onside kick. Three Toliver carries and one Graef PAT later, Barnesville would be up 27-0.

On Bellaire’s next possession, the Shamrocks forced another three-and-out and took the ball back near midfield. Wells connected on passes to Toliver and Evan Carpenter, and Carpenter would find the end zone on a five-yard touchdown run.

Under running clock rules, the rest of the game would pass quickly and finish with the score remaining 33-0.

Toliver was named the Player of the Game, with 18 carries for 166 yards and four touchdowns. Wells added an additional 60 yards rushing on six carries and went 4-for-5 passing for 45 yards. Behind the dominant Barnesville offensive line, the Rocks would rush for a total of 246 yards in the game.

The Shamrocks will return to action next Friday, September 11, at 7:00 p.m., with the Buckeye Local Panthers coming to Shamrock Stadium. The Panthers are winless after three starts, losing 61-6 to the Shadyside Tigers Friday night. The Big Reds will play host to the John Marshall Monarchs.
