Friday Night Football: Week 5
Brief accounts of the football contests of week 5 of the 2026 season are shared below.
Barnesville – 48, Monroe Central – 6
It was a virtual blowout for the Rocks against neighboring Monroe Central at Shamrock Stadium Thursday night. Going into half time up 42-0, the second half was played on “a running clock”, each team trading a touchdown before the clock ran out.

Next week, Barnesville hosts Harrison Central during Pumpkin Festival week. The Huskies will travel to Barnesville with a 1-4 record. Harrison Central lost to the undefeated Martins Ferry Purple Riders Friday night 49-0.
The Seminoles next week will take on Wheeling Central Catholic that lost to the UL Jets Thursday night.
Future opponents for the ‘Rocks go into week 6 with unblemished records – Martins Ferry, Fort Frye and Union Local.
Union Local – 24, Wheeling Central – 13
The Jets hosted the invading Wheeling Central Maroon Knights Thursday Night at Morristown coming out on top, 24-13 in a tough fought contest.
While the Knights are now 1-4 for the season, their schedule is intense. Last year, they went on to win the West Virginia state title.
Next week, the Jets travel across the county to take on the undefeated Martins Ferry Purple Riders.
Shenandoah – 43 , Trimble –20
Shenandoah racked up another win for a 4-1 record at the midpoint of the season. Trimble is now 1-4 on the year.
Next week, the Zeps travel toward the Ohio River to take on the Shadyside Tigers who eked out a 22-19 win over the Strasburg Franklin Tigers Friday night. Shadyside is 5-0 on the year.
Ridgewood – 56, Buckeye Trail – 0
Buckeye Trail continues to struggle. After five weeks, they remain winless. Ridgewood moves on to week six with a 4-1 record.
Next week, the Warriors travel north to take on the Strasburg-Franklin Tigers. Strasburg lost a close contest against Shadyside Friday night for a 4-1 record thus far.
