John “Johnny” Caldwell Dunn

John “Johnny” Caldwell Dunn, 96, of St. Clairsville, Ohio passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 26, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Parshall Dunn and Dessa Quieterra (Huff) Dunn; his siblings, Dorothy Kolter, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Strahl, and Don Conway; son-in-law, Greg Christakis.

John was born on June 6, 1930 in Morristown, Ohio and grew up on his family farm in Lafferty, Ohio in a log cabin built in 1779 by his ancestor, Thomas Dunn.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 71 years, Patricia Ann (Dayton) Dunn whom he married on September 10, 1955; his four children; Terrie (Don) McKelvey, David Dunn, Kelly (Greg) Christakis, and Holly (Jim) Sayre; six grandchildren; Brian (Elise) Sayre, Ashley (Zack) Hill, Anna Leigh McKelvey, Madison McKelvey, Jessica Christakis, and Matthew Christakis; four great-grandchildren, Harper Sayre, Hudson Sayre, Lailey Hill, Boone Hill; and a sister, Mary Jo Phillips.

John attended Lafferty High School where he played high school sports and worked as a caddy at Belmont Hills Country Club which began his life-long love of golf.

After high school, he served in the Navy during the Korean War. After returning home, he worked for 40 years as a union carpenter and ended his construction career with KIMTECK Corporation, Pittsburgh, as a Project Manager. Loving golf, he then worked at Olgebay Park Resort as a golf ranger for 20 years, and then worked as an attendant at Beck Funeral Home.

John loved playing and talking about golf, reading, and helping others with his carpentry skills. He was a member of the American Legion #159 and the Saints Club of St. Clairsville.
