New Telemetry Equipment Enhances Patient Care at Barnesville Hospital
Press Release
BARNESVILLE – WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital recently received nearly $500,000 in new telemetry equipment in its Emergency Room and Medical-Surgical units. The Hospital’s Operating Room and Progressive Care units will also receive the new equipment.
“Investments like this strengthen our ability to provide high-quality care close to home,”
Judy Bruno, president and CEO of Barnesville Hospital, said. “We’re grateful to the donors, families, businesses and foundations who helped make this project possible and continue to support the Hospital.”
Telemetry monitoring plays an important role in the care of patients experiencing chest pain, heart arrhythmias, or complications such as strokes, blood clots, or fluid in the lungs. The system continuously measures heart rhythms, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oxygen levels, providing medical staff with real-time patient data.
“This equipment is not only a valuable diagnostic and observation tool, but it also features alarms that notify staff of sudden, life-threatening changes, enabling swift intervention,” Susan Redish, director of Nursing, said.
“These monitors provide our clinical teams with advanced decision-support tools, including smart alarms, predictive algorithms, and sepsis alerts, helping staff identify and respond to critical conditions, like sepsis, more quickly. Their intuitive interface and portable design also help streamline workflows, allowing our staff to efficiently monitor multiple patients and respond promptly when every second matters.”
Project funding began with year-end giving campaigns in 2024 and 2025. Grants were received from The Foundation for a Better World and The Antero Foundation in 2025.
“Families in Barnesville shouldn’t have to travel to get the level of monitoring this equipment provides,” Adam Hoffman, president of Foundation for a Better World, said.
“Strengthening the capability of a community hospital is one of the most direct investments we can make in a region’s health. We’re glad to support WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital in bringing that capability to the patients who live there.”
The Hospital also received significant support from individuals, families, and local businesses, including a substantial donation from Dr. Pratap Souri and memorial donations in honor of Clara Groves and John Sawvel. Together, these contributions and grants totaled $243,153 and helped make the purchase of the new cardiac monitoring technology possible.
“We are happy to support the management and staff of Barnesville Hospital in their efforts to bring the best technology and healthcare to the local community,” David Daley and Jane Sawvel Daley said. “We are honored to help carry on the legacy that our family members, Clara Groves and John Sawvel, helped to start.”
