Rotary Will Dedicate Barnesville Peace Pole

At the Rotary International Convention in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in June, a permanent Peace Pole — Rotary’s symbol of peace and unity —  was installed at the Hilton Garden Inn in the downtown host city.

“It shows the community that we are peace builders,” Former Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick said. “The message on the Peace Pole is ‘May Peace Prevail On Earth’ and it’s in various languages that represent the community.”

The Barnesville Rotary Club will dedicate a Peace Pole for the community following the club’s regular luncheon meeting at approximately 12:30 on August 26, according to current president Mary Sidwell.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and join club members at the ceremony.

The pole will be located in the pocket park area at the corner of North Chestnut and E. Walnut streets just north of the downtown business district.

Former district officer and longtime active Rotarian Mary Jane Schackelford of Zanesville will be on hand to help the local club dedicate the symbol of peace.
