Well Pad Drilling Underway

Night time travelers along State Route 800 north of town near the ballfields are struck by the lighted drill at a newly developed well pad near the end of Hillcrest Road.

The “Grand Pad” is the third developed by Ascent Resources, an Oklahoma City-based company, with an office nearby in Cambridge. A Cambridge spokesperson for the firm contacted Friday could not say when active drilling will be complete.

The well pad extends north some distance from the drilling rig. (Barnesville Area News photo)

Ascent Resources is one of the largest private producers of natural gas in the United States on daily production and the largest producer of natural gas in Ohio, according to the firm’s website.

The firm has two other well pads between Barnesville and I-70, both west of Route 800. They are the Maldon Pad at 33820 Lowe Road and the Victor Pad at 62659 Shannon Road.
