This was a typical scene in Barnesville area homes 70 years ago. Electric decorations usually consisted of some lights on a tree and, perhaps, some single candles in several windows – note the single candle visible over the chrome kitchen chair. Trees were almost universally real and not perfectly shaped trees of today. Most of the glass ornaments on the tree were American made and no tree was complete without copious amounts of aluminum icicles.
A few other observations, no wall-to-wall carpet, area rugs or linoleum were floor coverings, and the “smart” kitchen table was a chrome Formica affair with padded plastic seats and backs. And sheer curtains were also very much in vogue.
Finally, this house was also supplied with live Christmas music…. complete with a “chirper” in the bird cage hanging near the tree.
