Margaret Jean Coleman

Margaret J. “Peg” Coleman, 97, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Belmont Manor Nursing Home.
She was born July 14, 1928, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, a daughter of the late William Shambaugh and Marjorie Giffen Shambaugh.
Peg is survived by six children, Jim (Judy) Coleman, JoAnne (Dan) Gerlach, Marjorie (Tom) Josefczyk, Don (Veronica) Coleman, Kenny (Teri) Coleman and Judi (Kirke) Porterfield; 22 grandchildren, Tamara Davis, Becky Barker, Jacob Coleman, Joel Gerlach, Heidi Mullaney, Jared Gerlach, Amanda Blust, Anita Kadlecek, Brian Josefczyk, Melanie Maund, Mindy Luyster, Jill Marnich, Kimberly Coleman, Deniece Massey, Emily Massey, Joey Coleman, Ben Coleman, Douglas, Mark, Brian, Kevin, and Blake Porterfield; 27 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Coleman; a brother, Bill Shambaugh; two sisters, Lois Pickering and Bea Blazek; and a great granddaughter, Dugan Davis.
Peg was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. A graduate of St. Clairsville High School, she went on to graduate from the Elliott School of Business in Wheeling. Peg was a lifelong member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville where she was involved in the Women’s Circle and later attended East Richland Friends Church.
Her passion for music led her to serve over 75 years as an organist for Calvary Church and Grace Presbyterian Church in Martins Ferry and was a member of the Thursday Music Club in Wheeling. She also never missed the Coleman Family Band playing and singing. Peg’s family was most important to her and she was active in their groups including Youth Club, 4-H, Girl Scouts and St. C. Band Parents. Peg was also the Friends Church Softball official scorer. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing and cross stitching, and was a member of the Farmers Club and the St. Clairsville Alumni Association.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where visitation will again be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Jerry Wenger officiating. The burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Clairsville Alumni Association, or Thursday Music Club in Wheeling, or the Belmont County 4-H Council, or Amedisys Hospice.
