Barnesville Claims 7th Win at Homecoming

Homecoming got off to a shaky start when the Shamrocks fumbled the opening kickoff. Recovered by Linsly and six plays later, the Cadets scored capped by a PAT for an early 7-0 lead.

The Shamrocks then scored 34 unanswered points for a 34-7 win for the team’s seventh win out of eight starts this year.

Toliver, who dropped the kickoff return, easily recovered., He scored twice in the contest.

Kolby Jones hit paydirt with a 1-yard run. Evan Wells scored on 21-yard run and Phoenix Graham capped the win with a fourth quarter touchdown.           

Exchange student Luis Garcia Del Manzano kicked four PATs, only failing in his last attempt due to a bad snap in the final quarter.

Barnesville led the game 14-7 at the half.

A Barnesville interception by Hines Ford early in the third quarter, set the stage for Toliver’s second TD.   

Linsly fumbled the ball five times, recovering the ball four times, while Barnesville’s single fumble ultimately resulted in the Cadet’s only touchdown.

In the first downs contest, it was almost even. Barnesville moved the chains 16 times, Linsly, 15.   

Barnesville was penalized five times for 45 yards. Linsly had 10 penalties totaling 65 yards.      

According to AVC Communications statistician Mark Brown, Barnesville logged 161 yards rushing. Junior Quarterback Cole Frances completed 10 of 15 passes for 219 yards.

Linsly had 66 yards rushing and 200 yards passing with 21 completions in 33 attempts. Linsly’s Quarterback Braden Wade was sacked four times.  

For the first time, the Barnesville Dairy Queen Player of the Game was Shamrock Quarterback, Cole Frances.

The Rocks Pizza Defensive Player of the Game was senior Hines Ford who returned to action after being sidelined by an injury the week before against Wheeling Central. Ford’s interception early in the third quarter was decisive in the ‘Rocks win.

Next week, Barnesville will head to Marietta College’s Don Drum Stadium to take on the Number 1 AA Team in West Virginia. Independence High, a consolidated school of 500, is located in Coal City, Raleigh County, near Beckley.

The Patriots are undefeated at 6-0. Friday night they beat Westside High 49-6.       

 Due to travel time for both teams, the game will get underway at 7:45 p.m.

 In addition to the normal festivities related to crowning the Homecoming Queen, Friday’s game also included three other special events.

As the last home game of the season, senior players, cheerleaders and band members completed their Senior Walk after the contest.

Barnesville Cheerleaders recognized and honored this year’s Rock the Cure recipient, Anita Rogers.

School administrators recognized the Goaliners, who made a final $40,000 payment on a $100,000 pledge for the stadium turf and lighting project.
