Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas concludes a four decade career in law enforcement this month.
“Country Boy from Somerton”. Retiring Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas was profiled in the weekend edition of the Times Leader, the county’s only daily newspaper.
In the page one tribute, Lucas said “I feel like I am one of the examples to come from a little place in Somerton to where I am now. I only got here because t he people allowed me to get here.”
Chief Deputy James Zusack follows Lucas in the position in January. He ran unopposed for Sheriff in the November General Election.
Snow Causes I-70 Mishap
During Friday morning’s snowfall, Fairview and Barnesville Departments responded to a commercial vehicle crash on Eastbound I-70 at the 201 just east of the Route 800 Interchange. mile marker. After the call, a tow truck was required to remove the vehicle from the accident scene.
Fairview VFD Gains Members
. The newest members of the Fairview VFD are Angel Lake and Clint Vinson who recently passed the Ohio State Fire Test.
According to the department’s post, “Angel has been with the department since 2018 running on the medical side of things as an EMR and this year she decided to take the step of becoming cross trained in both EMS and fire”.
“Clint joined the department in February and has been an invaluable asset, he has put in countless hours of work both on calls and around the station”.
The post noted the department is accepting applications for firefighters, EMS providers, and support staff. No experience is necessary while the department will cover training and equipment costs.
Departing Commissioner Honored
Belmont County Commissioner Josh Meyer received a standing ovation during his last regular meeting as a member of the board Wednesday.
Local officials, county employees, and family members gathered to recognize the board’s achievements during the two terms Meyer served.
Meyer indicated he has job offers and is excited about the future.
Vince Gianangeli, who beat Meyer in the May Republic Primary, will be sworn into office on January 2.
Danehart Concludes Career at WTRF
Wheeling’s Lede News reported this past week on the retirement of Brenda Danehart who began her career at WTRF-TV 7 43 years ago as a reporter. Danehart worked her way up in the organization, ending her professional career as news director for the station.
