Olney Roof Project Fund Drive
BARNESVILLE – The gym at Olney is getting a new roof. While the project is underway, funding efforts for the capital project continue under a “Raise the Roof” campaign.
Contractor for the $39,000 project is C&T Construction of Barnesville. So far they’ve removed the old shingles and installed fresh plywood and underlayment.
The material on the roof is now all new and sealed to protect it from the wet autumn weather. Yet to be completed is installation of a new slate-colored standing seam metal roof.

When the gym was added to the rear of “Main” in 1938, the roof was an asphalt flat surface, a common practice for commercial and institutional buildings at that time.
Thirty years ago, alumni and friends gathered on a winter weekend to modify the roof structure adding fabricated wooden roof trusses on top of the original roofline.
