WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital Receives Jared Box Donation

BARNESVILLE – WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital received 10 Jared Boxes from Mark Snider, SI, Team Lead, Survey & GIS at RETTEW, who presented them to Sierra Yoho, Emergency Department Nurse Manager, Micaela Drewett, RN, Natasha Lenarz, RN, and Dr. Smith.

The thoughtful gifts will be shared with young patients in the Emergency Room to bring joy during challenging moments.

“We are grateful to RETTEW for donating these amazing Jared Boxes,” Sierra Yoho, Emergency Department nurse manager, said. This project provides our pediatric patients with a moment of comfort and joy during what can often be a stressful visit.”

The Jared Box Project began in 2001 when the children of Our Lady of Victory School in State College, Pennsylvania created toy-filled boxes to honor their classmate and friend, Jared — a brave young boy who faced cancer with incredible courage and faith.

Since then, more than 1,000,000 Jared Boxes have brought smiles and comfort to
children in over 500 hospitals nationwide. Each box is filled with the “gift of play” — toys,
games, coloring books, and activities carefully selected for children of various ages to
brighten their day during hospital visits.
