Barnesville Repeats as OVAC 3A Wrestling Champion
Ladyn Hines Claims Women’s Crown
WHEELING – This was Barnesville’s 7th consecutive 3A crown and the 15th overall for the school at the OVAC Ron Mauck Wrestling Tournament
In 2024, Barnesville was named Overall Team Winner over University High Morgantown while varsity head coach Jayson Stephen was selected as the 3A Coach of the year as he was again this year.
University came in first this year while also claiming the 5A crown. The Shamrocks, 3A winners, claimed second place among all the teams completing.
Beaver Local, perennial contender, repeated at 4A champs, clinching their division title on Friday. Barnesville’s neighbor, Union Local, came in second in 4A behind Beaver Local and three weight division champs!
Going into day two, Caldwell was leading the 1-2A Division with Cameron in second place. Day two flipped that playbook with Cameron claiming the championship.
In the 72 years since the first OVAC tournament, now Ron Mauck OVAC Tournament, this year marked the first year females competed. A total of 95 girls entered the contest including Barnesville’s lone entrant, freshman Ladyn Hines, who won the 120-pound weight class crown in a 9-0 decision over Zenfira Spencer of Edison.
Hines was the Shamrock’s only weight class champion.

In addition to Hines, the following Shamrocks competed in their respective weight classes in the final round
Easton Stephen – 5th Place Match at 106 lbs.; Jaxon Aberegg – 3rd Place Match at 120 lbs.; Bentley Stephen – 3rd Place Match at 126 lbs.; Ryder King – 3rd Place Match at 138 lbs.; Colt Carpenter – Championship Match at 144 lbs. was declared runner-up; Braxton Loring – 7th Place Match at 165 lbs.; Hines Ford – Championship Match at 175 lbs. was declared runner-up; and Christien Hannahs – 3rd Place Match at 215 lbs.

At the Fredericktown Invite last week that drew 24 teams, Barnesville’s two junior high girls wrestlers finished 13th overall. In their weight divisions, Hadley Betts came in first and Madison Smith fourth.
