Effects of Major Storm Linger
All Area Public Schools Closed Tuesday
The snow has moved on after dropping more than a foot of snow on the greater Barnesville area only to be replaced by bitterly cold weather.
A host of Monday meetings, events and activities are off the calendar, including the Barnesville Village Council meeting.
“The Village of Barnesville Council Meeting scheduled for tonight Monday, January 26, 2026, at 7:00 PM has been canceled due to inclement weather. The next regularly scheduled Council Meeting will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 7:00 PM in Council Chambers, 132 N Arch St.”.
Barnesville Hutton Memorial Public Library is closed today.
Due to road conditions and extreme cold, the BHVSD Board meeting has been rescheduled from today to Wednesday, January 28th, at 6PM. The meeting will be held at the Belmont Career Center, 68090 Hammond Road, St. Clairsville, OH 43950. The public may also view the meeting online by accessing a link on the Belmont-Harrison Vocational School District website (www.bhccenters.com) or Facebook page.
All school sporting events including practices are canceled.
Schools are closed while many businesses and services are canceled Monday including those Barnesville Area News has found online. Other activities for Tuesday and Wednesday are also postponed or canceled.
At 9:50 a.m., Belmont County Sheriff James G. Zusack lowered the snow emergency level for the county from Level 3 to Level 2. Only necessary travel should be attempted.
Below is a list of other cancellations:
Monday – Medical offices for the Ohio Hills Health Center, WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital including clinics in Barnesville and Morristown, Doudna Chiropractic in Quaker City, Barnesville Vision Center and Fisher Family and Sport Chiropractic are closed among others.
South Central Power offices are closed as is the Farm Bureau office. The Barnesville American Legion is closed. The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles office in Barnesville is closed.
Some retail operations are closed including Blossoms, Sunrise TV and Rentals, Designed for Print and Cheffy Drugs on East Main in Barnesville.
Woodsfield Savings Bank is closed.
The Tlaquepaque Mexican Restaurant, On the Rocks Restaurant and Belmont Savings Bank on the village’s eastside are closed.
Several businesses have announced they will open mid-day if conditions improve. They include the Quaker Kitchen Restaurant, Main Street Barrel House, Barnesville Veterinary Services and Barnesville’s Pit Stop.
Barnesville Area News is also aware of the following cancelations this week:
Tuesday – The Barnesville Rotary Meeting is canceled.
Tuesday – Barnesville, Union Local, and Switzerland Local schools are closed as are classes in the East Guernsey Local School District. Noble Local schools are closed with remote learning in place.
Wednesday – The Open House and Ribbon Cutting at The Enclave of Barnesville is canceled. It will be rescheduled.
Wednesday – Barnesville Booster’s Bingo is canceled.
It is still wise to check websites, social media accounts or call ahead if you decide to venture out.

According to current weather predictions, highs for the remainder of the week will be lucky to break 20 degrees while overnight lows are predicted to be below zero.
