Construction Activity Nears at Main and Chestnut
Trees added to downtown streetscape 30 years ago were felled late Wednesday afternoon by local developer T.J. Jefferis at the open lot at the corner of North Chestnut and West Main streets.
Thursday morning a chain link fence was placed around the perimeter of the lot as the site is readied for the construction of a new two-story mixed use office-retail building.
Barnesville Fiscal Officer Jeannie Hannahs confirmed a permit is in place for the $3.5 million project. Last fall the project was given the green light by the downtown Architectural Review Committee.

Last July, a state press release noted the project “is one step closer to reality. JEFBA, LLC, in collaboration with JobsOhio, Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE), the Belmont County Port Authority, and the Village of Barnesville, today announced an investment of over $2.9 million to construct a new building in historic downtown Barnesville, creating 15 new jobs”.
