On Borrowed Time

This nondescript 1.5-story frame house at 771 East Main Street is on borrowed time. At last night’s Barnesville Village Council meeting, members approved a demolition permit for the structure.

The house is currently located next to a vacant lot where 775 E. Main stood until this past fall.

That building was torn down by local businessman Joel Braido who will construct an automatic car wash at the location.

The addition of 771 that Braido purchased on March 12 from Russell E. Henderson will provide the space needed to construct the business. Completion of the structure is expected this year.

Checking old city directories, we find that in 1929 it was the home to Earnest L and Mildred Howell. He was a “miller” associated with Howell Milling located in the building that now serves as home to Flag Floors.

Twenty years late, a retired couple G.R. and Nettie Pittman, lived in the house.

One of the last city directories, 1975, finds it as the home for Roger and Joyce Reynolds. He was working as a diesel mechanic at that time.
