Red Riders Overpower Lady Shamrocks

WEIRTON – Barnesville Varsity Softball’s trip to Weirton on Monday was challenging. In the end, they couldn’t keep up with Weir losing by a score of 8-0.

The Red Riders got on the board in the bottom of the first inning thanks to hits by Eliza Utt and Zoey Spencer, each scoring one run.

In the second, Weir added to the early lead on a Brynn Artman double that brought in two and Utt hit a solo home run raising the score to 5-0.

Weir added to their early lead in the third inning thanks to two Shamrock errors. The Red Riders led 7-0, going into the fourth and won the game, 8-0  in five innings of play.

Utt earned the win for Weir surrendering one hit and no runs, striking out seven and issuing no walks.

Peyton Loudin stepped into the circle first for Barnesville. The pitcher surrendered 11 hits and eight runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one.

Ella Betts went 1-for-2 at the plate to log the Shamrock’s only hit.
