Track & Field: Boys and Girls Place First at Shamrock Relays
This past Saturday, both of Barnesville High School’s boys and girls track and field teams placed first in the 33rd Annual Barnesville Shamrock Relays sponsored by WesBanco.
The boys recorded 122 team points whereas the girls recorded 99 points.
Placing second for the boys teams was St. Clairsville with 101 points, and for the girls were the Cambridge Bobcats with 74 points.
Other teams that competed in the relays were the Bellaire Big Reds, Buckeye Local Panthers, Caldwell Redskins, Harrison Central Huskies, Monroe Central Seminoles, Shenandoah Zeps, Union Local Jets and Western Reserve Academy Pioneers.
The Shamrocks were top performers across the various events.
For the boys, junior Trey Toliver came close to placing first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.80. Beating Toliver was St. Clairsville’s Hunter Orum, who finished with a time of 11.54.
In the same event, sophomore Leland Burtner placed fifth with a time of 12.13.
Burtner did take the crown in the following 200 meter dash with a time of 24.60, and as for the girls, sophomore Bradie Nixon finished third with a time of 30.84 in the same event.
In the 800 meter run, juniors Mason Starr and Linkoln Jendrusik placed sixth and seventh place with times of 2:12.86 and 2:21.72, respectively.
Junior Bonita Passmore for the girls team placed second for the 800 meter run with a 2:39.17 time.
In the 1600 meter run (one mile), freshman Addy Reed performed exceptionally well by recording a time of 5:42.08, which was only four seconds shy of beating Western Reserve Academy’s Kobi Marsden.
While there were only two participants, freshman Ansley Clouse competed in the 3200 meter run (two miles) with a time of 14:35.02.
In the boys 110m hurdles, junior Cole Francis finished second to Harrison Central’s Beau Rinkes by recording a time of 16.24.
Senior Avia Leasure finished second in the girls 100m hurdles with a 17.03 time, and in third was sophomore Avery Bliss with a personal best time of 17.05.
In the boys 4×400 relay, sophomore Jack Ralston, Starr, freshman Ryder Gallagher and Jendrusik recorded a personal best time of 4:02.36 and placed second.
For the girls, junior Macy Palmer was second in the shot put event and had a distance of 33’ 10.5’’. Her teammate Lydia Welch was third with a distance of 33’ 3.5’’.
Lastly, sophomore Kevin Phillips recorded a personal best of 138’ 1” in the boys discus throw and placed first. Freshman Kali Jones recorded a distance of 16’ 5” in the girls long jump event.
Both the boys and girls teams will be competing together in the Division IV District meet in Newscomerstown on Monday, May 18. The start time of the event is 3 p.m.
