Barnesville Elks Lodge Celebrates Flag Day
Barnesville Elks Lodge #1699, located at 117 N. Chestnut Street, will be hosting its annual Flag Day ceremony on Monday, June 15, in the Elks Ballroom at 7:00 pm.
According to information posted by the Library of Congress, “Flag Day is celebrated annually on June 14 to commemorate the day in 1777 when the Second Continental Congress officially adopted the design of the Stars and Stripes. It evolved from a grassroots schoolteacher’s campaign into a national observance signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1949.”
The ceremony will feature a talk that highlights the meaning and changes in the American flag throughout the history of the United States of America. This event is open to the public.
