Murder Suspect Enters “Insanity Plea”
ST CLAIRSVILLE – After “a true bill” indictment Wednesday by the Belmont County Grand Jury, which recognized that sufficient evidence to charge a suspect with a crime and proceed to trial was presented, the charge of murder in the case against Autum Sky Stotelmyer-Palmer, 20, was transferred from Western Division Court to the Court of Common Pleas.
Stotelmyer-Palmer, a resident of Buttermilk Road, Belmont (Morristown area) is charged with the murder of her one-year-old daughter, listed in court records only as A.S., on July 31.
In Court Friday, Judge Chris Berhalter appointed Attorney Aaron Miller, a public defender, to represent the defendant.
The judge also approved the defendant’s motion for the “accused to appear in civilian clothing at all proceedings”, according to court records.
In Court, Miller entered “a Plea of Not Guilty and Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity” to the charge.
Berhalter ordered a mental health evaluation with Stotelmyer-Palmer remaining in jail until the results of the evaluation are known.
A review hearing is set for Sept. 8 at 10 a.m.
