With the announced sale of the “Grange Hall” this past week, this is a perfect time to remind readers how progressive members of the National Grange were over a century ago. In addition to adopting the most modern farming practices, members were strong education proponents.
In fact, as this postal card reveals, members of the Belmont Grange operated traveling libraries long before the Barnesville Public Library was established in 1924. As noted, this was possible through the local group’s association with the Ohio State Library.
