Construction Begins on Barnesville Vision Center Building
Visitors to the 2026 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival will notice construction is underway in an open lot at 220 North Chestnut Street just up the street from the Barnesville Antique Mall.
The construction of the one-story 8,200 square foot clinic represents the second major downtown development currently underway. Construction of a two-story office/commercial building at 101 West Main Street is also going up.
Earlier in the month, on September 8, Drs. Melissa and Zach Leach, their family, employees of the Barnesville Vision Center and community members gathered at the building site for a ceremonial groundbreaking. Read that account here.
Barnesville Vision Center was established at 177 E. Main Street by Dr. Melissa Leach in 2005. The business has expanded over the years including the addition of son, Dr. Zach in 2020.
“ Currently we have eight full-time and four part-time employees, along with two doctors,” Dr. Zach shared in an online interview.
The new building will provide space to expand the practice.
“We are making room for an additional 3-4 opticians, each with an assistant and at least one, if not two, more doctors,” Leach said.
In time, he predicts “we’re looking to hire an additional 10-15 employees.”
The new building will be served by nine regular and two handicapped street parking spaces.
Leach said an opening is currently projected for mid-2027. The business will continue uninterrupted operations at the E. Main Street location until the grand opening of the new facility.
General contractor on the project is Bedway Development Corporation of nearby Belmont, while “most, if not all, of the subcontractors are local,“ Leach said.
