Pumpkins, Porches & Plenty of Autumn Charm
Fall is here when the corn stalks, straw bales, pumpkins and mums begin appearing at Barnesville homes on porches and in yards. As an official part of the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, residents and those residing within one mile of the village limits were invited to decorate their homes to get the community into the festival spirit.
The Barnesville High School Art Club judged the entries. Barnesville Do It Best Hardware/Tonya & Ken Carpenter sponsored this contest.
First Place Winner — Don Grear
The first-place winner was the Don Grear residence on East Main Street. Grear passed away earlier this year, but his family continued the tradition. Amongst the typical fall decor were various antiques.

Second Place Winner — Scott Elliott
On North Chestnut Street, Scott Elliott utilized the use of fountains and red wagons in his creative display. A pathway of pumpkins, gourds and mums focused observers’ attention on the front door, where a porch goose stood to greet visitors.

Third Place Winner — Sandy Fisher
Sandy Fisher on Walnut Street was a repeat winner from last year. Her whimsical display included a family of scarecrows and a wishing well. The fall decorations complemented her existing flower beds and landscape.

Judge’s Choice — Christel Hayes & Ryan Morris
Out on Leatherwood Pike, Christel Hayes and Ryan Morris captured the judge’s attention with their pumpkin stand. Folks were encouraged to stop and take a picture. Morris’s green thumb was responsible for the beautiful impatiens.
