Enterprise Album

This real photo postcard from before 1907 profiles Central East Main Street from today’s Cheffy Drugs at 148 E. Main to the former Barnesville Enterprise building, 162-166 East Main, and the buildings beyond that extended over the B & O Railroad Tunnel.

Of interest are several items:

  • Cheffy’s once sported third-story attic windows on the front facade. Today, it is possible to make out the bricked up windows.
  • The front facades of 152 and 154 E. Main Street, covered over by aluminum since the 1970s, are clearly detailed to the left of Cheffy’s
  • At the end of the block are several buildings that came down in the 20th century at the location of today’s Railroad Plaza. The pre-Civil War frame building adjacent to the Enterprise came down in the early 1980s. It last housed the Twin’s Beauty Shop and Red Loper’s Taxi stand.
