Pumpkin Show Winner Breaks Festival Record

CIRCLEVILLE – Always of interest to Barnesville Pumpkin Festival followers is how will the Circleville Pumpkin Show winner stack up to the local King Pumpkin.

This year’s winning entry by Troy VanArsdalen tipped the scales at 2,455 pounds, breaking the festival record set three years ago of 2,388 pounds.

The second and third place winners came in hundreds of pounds below the winner at 1,709- and 1,657-pounds respectfully.

Of interest is that pumpkins entered in the contest “must be grown within 25 miles of Circleville” as opposed to Barnesville’s competition that is an open one.

The 119th annual Circleville show runs today through Saturday night.

The Barnesville champion this year weighed 1,837 pounds.

The largest entry at Barnesville, 2,405 pounds in 2022 was a state record for a pumpkin grown in Pennsylvania.

The winners of the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival in 2017 and 2022, both grown in Belmont County, broke then Ohio state records at 2,150- and 2,195-pounds.

The same day, the Canton Repository, reported that the second place winner at the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, Adam Momirov of East Canton, just set a new state record with a 2,513-pound pumpkin. Momirov’s entry in Barnesville weighed 1,830 pounds.

Giant pumpkin growing, a scientific farming practice, has changed the landscape over the past 40 years with winners of several hundred pounds now over a ton!
