Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Fall After Strong Showing By Martins Ferry
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks couldn’t keep up with Martins Ferry and fell 10-3 on Friday.
Martins Ferry opened the scoring in the first after Abbey Snedeker tripled, scoring two runs.
Martins Ferry added one run in the second after Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks committed an error.
Martins Ferry scored five runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. Averie Hughes singled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, and Maddie Lucas singled, scoring two runs.
Lucas earned the win for Martins Ferry. The pitcher allowed eight hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking none. Ella Betts took the loss for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler went five innings, allowing 10 runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out four and walking three.
Maddy Tyson and Chae Smolira each collected two hits for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. Kylee Powell, Smolira, and Abigail Johnson each drove in one run for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks.
Lucas led Martins Ferry with four runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-5 on the day. Makayla Cole, Gracie Lucas, and Lucas each collected two hits for Martins Ferry.
Monday, April 21: Martins Ferry – 16, Barnesville – 4
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Stymied By Martins Ferry
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks couldn’t keep up with Martins Ferry and fell 16-4 on Monday.
Martins Ferry jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Giana Chripas homered to center field, scoring three runs, Abbey Snedeker hit a solo home run to center field, and Maddie Lucas drew a walk, scoring one run.
Martins Ferry added two runs in the second after Samantha Goddard doubled to center field on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.
A single by Chripas, and an error helped Martins Ferry extend their early lead in the third.
Martins Ferry scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chripas homered to left field, scoring two runs, Snedeker hit a solo home run to center field, and Gracie Lucas homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Lucas earned the win for Martins Ferry. The hurler surrendered eight hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Abigail Johnson pitched three innings in relief for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler gave up 11 hits and 11 runs (six earned) while, striking out none and walking none. Ella Betts took the loss for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler went one inning, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits, striking out one and walking four.
Johnson led Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Peyton Loudin and Payton Dudzik each collected two hits for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks.
Tuesday, April 22: Barnesville – 7, Buckeye Local – 2
Bottom Of The Lineup Carries Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Past Buckeye Local
The bottom of the lineup helped Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks capture a 7-2 victory over Buckeye Local on Tuesday. Peyton Loudin, Sophie Carpenter, and Lilly Welch combined for five of the team’s nine hits in the victory. They scored three runs and drove in two.
Loudin collected three hits in three at bats in the win. Loudin tripled in the fifth inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
Buckeye Local opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to two singles. Buckeye Local first got on the board when Kovalski singled, scoring one run.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Loudin tripled to center field, Buckeye Local committed an error, Buckeye Local committed an error, and Kylee Powell singled to left field, each scoring one run.
Abigail Johnson earned the win for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The right-handed pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one. Loudin stepped in the circle first for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and two runs (one earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking one. Kovalski started in the circle for Buckeye Local. The pitcher allowed seven hits and five runs (two earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.
Maddy Tyson went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.
K Lander went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. D Baukner and Lander each collected two hits for Buckeye Local.
Wednesday, April 23 – Wheeling Central – 6, Barnesville – 4
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Make Comeback Attempt, But Fall To Wheeling Central Catholic Varsity Knights
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks’s effort to come back from down five runs in the second inning came up just short, as they fell 6-4 to Wheeling Central Catholic Varsity Knights on Wednesday. Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks closed the gap by scoring on a triple and a single.
Wheeling Central Catholic Varsity Knights were the first to get on the board in the first when Maddie Miehle hit an inside the park home run, scoring three runs.
Wheeling Central Catholic Varsity Knights added three runs in the second after Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks committed an error.
Ella Betts opened the game for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler allowed 11 hits and six runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking three. Josie Frizzell started in the circle for Wheeling Central Catholic Varsity Knights. The pitcher allowed five hits and four runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking none.
Lilly Welch, the number nine hitter for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks, led the way with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.
Wheeling Central Catholic Varsity Knights accumulated 11 hits in the game. Miehle drove the middle of the lineup, leading Wheeling Central Catholic Varsity Knights with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 4-for-4 on the day. Erin Maxwell and Bella Rine each collected multiple hits for Wheeling Central Catholic Varsity Knights.
Wednesday, April 23: Barnesville – 13, St. Clairsville – 3
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks Surge Past St. Clairsville Thanks To Big Fifth Inning
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks scored eight runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat St. Clairsville 13-3 on Friday. Ella Betts hit an inside the park home run, scoring three runs, Lilly Welch singled, scoring one run, Abigail Johnson doubled, scoring two runs, and Payton Dudzik singled, scoring one run.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored two runs, Kylee Powell singled, scoring one run, and S Turner induced Peyton Loudin to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
Loudin earned the win for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. The hurler allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Turner took the loss for St. Clairsville. The pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering 13 runs (two earned) on 12 hits, striking out one and walking two.
Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks piled up 12 hits in the game. Betts drove the middle of the lineup, leading Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Dudzik led Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks with three hits in four at bats. Maddy Tyson and Welch each collected multiple hits for Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks. Barnesville Varsity Shamrocks stole five bases in the game.
J Brannan led St. Clairsville with two runs batted in. The leadoff hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. K Berrara led St. Clairsville with three hits in three at bats.
